What is "Washitsu"?

Washitsu, it is a Traditional Japanese Style Room, with many means such as Comfortable, Calm, Relaxing and such. 

Every word is related to traditional Japanese Soul, Hospitality, Peaceful atmosphere and spirits of Shinto.

 

Shinto is a traditional religious belief system native to Japan. 

Key aspects of Shinto include rituals, ceremonies, and festivals performed to honor the kami and maintain harmony with the natural world. Shinto shrines, known as jinja, serve as places of worship and are often characterized by distinctive architectural features like torii gates and sacred forests.

 

It emphasizes a deep reverence for nature, ancestors, and the spiritual forces believed to inhabit the world, fostering a sense of connection and gratitude for the natural environment and the divine.

 

Washitsu, it is typically made of simple colored strong wood and Tatami Mats (Japanese style floor mat) are spread on the floor, walls are decorated also by wood or plasters and sliding doors will be installed, it's in perfect harmony with nature. 

 

And some of them have “Chashitsu”, which is used for Tea Ceremonies with inviting house owner’s guests.   

"Chashitsu" is used not only for gathering ceremonies, but also used for formal tea parties.    

 

However, in recent years, many Japanese people prefer modern Japanese-style rooms and some foreigners who living in Japan also prefer same modern Washitsu than traditional one.

What is "Chashitsu"?

What is "Tatami" Mat?

Tatami mats are traditional Japanese floor coverings made of woven straw. They are commonly used as flooring material in Japanese-style rooms, called Washitsu. Tatami mats are known for their natural, light straw color and their characteristic fragrance. They provide a comfortable and soft surface to sit, walk, or sleep on. Tatami mats are also significant culturally, as they often determine the layout of a room and are used as a measure of room size in traditional Japanese architecture. They are still widely used in Japan today, although modern alternatives are also available.

 

There are several materials for tatami mats. We recommend you to choose traditional Tatami mats made from rushes, but some countries may not allow importing them due to quarantine restrictions. In that case, we use a different material for Tatami, it is made from Washi (Japanese durable special paper)

The standard size of "One" Tatami mat is 170cm x 85cm (Approx. it's 1.44 square meters), however we also accept the sizes other than standard one, making any size of it is possible for fitting to your room.

What is "Tsuboniwa"?

About Tsuboniwa.

 "Tsubo" is the Japanese unit of measurement for area and "Niwa" means small gardens.

 

Tsuboniwa is one of the traditional Japanese garden styles, and refers to small gardens that are mainly created along with Japanese-style houses and buildings. (In-House small garden)

 

The term "Tsuboniwa" literally translates to "courtyard garden" or "small garden on a plot of land." These gardens are designed to provide a peaceful and serene escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. 

 

They often feature carefully arranged elements such as rocks, gravel, moss, bamboo, sand, small trees or shrubs, and sometimes water features like a small pond or stream. Tsuboniwa gardens are meticulously maintained and are intended to be appreciated from within the home as well as from the garden itself, creating a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

What is "Hinoki-Buro"?

"Hinoki-buro" refers to a traditional Japanese wooden bathtub or hot tub made from hinoki wood. Hinoki is a type of cypress tree native to Japan known for its pleasant aroma and natural resistance to mold and mildew. Hinokiburo are prized for their aesthetic beauty, as well as for the calming and therapeutic properties associated with soaking in hinoki-scented hot water. They are commonly found in traditional Japanese Ryokan and Onsen.

 

Recent scientific studies have shown that the scent of cypress is effective in preventing dementia, as well as improving it, according to researchers around the world, and a Japanese Neuroscientist Dr. Nobuko Nakano also reported the same in the year of 1998.

What is "Nishikigoi"?

Nishikigoi, often simply referred to as koi, are a type of ornamental fish that originated in Japan. They are a colorful variety of the common carp and are renowned for their vibrant colors and patterns. The name "Nishikigoi" translates to "brocaded carp" or "colored carp."

 

In Japan, koi are considered symbols of luck, prosperity, and good fortune. They have been bred for centuries, with different breeding techniques developed to enhance specific colors and patterns. Some koi varieties, such as Kohaku (white body with red markings) and Taisho Sanke (white body with red and black markings), are particularly popular among koi enthusiasts.
